Things Fall Apart Essay II
A person's geography, family history, and memory greatly shapes who they are and what they
will become. A person's geography is a very key part in their personality, for every place in
the world has its own culture and customs that are printed on to the personality of its occupants
which govern the way they think and act. Every person is an individual, yet they also share
qualities which can be a result of their family history. And lastly, memory is the biggest part of a
person's attitude, pesonality, and mindset. Personally, each of these things plays a great role in
who I am today, and I'm sure they will play an even bigger role in the person I will become.
Geography is the first thing that has shaped my life. The culture of the area in which we live
usually decides our beliefs, morals, actions, etc. Living in the United States of America, I have
been able to live a life without worry of war or famine which has helped me live a happier and
more carefree life than would be in other countries. Living here has also given me the ability to
enjoy certain things such as television, video games, music, etc. which may be viewed as being
spoiled, but experiencing this and seeing what kind of lives other people have to live which
allows me to be fortunate for what I have and be sensitive to the poor welfare of others.
American culture is also part of my everyday life. It has shaped my sense of humor, the way I
talk, and the things I find amusing.
Memory is the second thing that has molded my personality. What has happened in my life
so far isn't easily forgotten. A person's memory helps the development of their personality and
the way they view things. A person who lives a horrible life usually doesn't see life itself as a
blessing, but a person who has lived an enjoyable life sees it as something they wouldn't give up.
These two contrasting people would not be able to come to their conclusions about life without
memory of how they have lived. This same concept is present in my life. Through experience I
know more about things, and can make my own conclusions about life's options.
Lastly, family history has helped me be the person I am. First off, my family history had
brought me to where I live now (my geography), which I've already explained has shaped me in
this topic. My family history has helped, along with geography, my culture and beliefs and even
morals. Coming from German roots, my ancestors immigrated to America, and if that didn't
happen, I would probably be living in Germany today and I wouldn't be the same person or
have the same personality.
In conclusion, these three things have helped to form who I am and will continue to shape
who I will become. Each of these things come together to make me this very person, and
without how they have affected me, I wouldn't be the same person that I am.
